Sentier de la Réserve Naturelle Régionale Lac de Malaguet

Malaguet Lake is an artificial lake located in Haute-Loire at an altitude of 1025 m, on the border of Auvergne and Velay, in the heart of the Livradois Forez Regional Natural Park, on the plateau which extends from La Chaise-Dieu to d'Allègre. A dike built downstream is at the origin of this 22-hectare body of water.
Originally, the lake was to be a marshy expanse separated in two by a ford, hence its name: “bad ford” which gave “Maleguet” in 1548 then Malaguet thereafter. The lake is in the form of an elongated basin.

Built by the Barons d'Allègre, we find the first traces of its existence in the XNUMXth century. At that time, the lake was intended for fish farming. This activity will continue until the middle of the XNUMXth century. It is then recreational fishing that will take over.
