In the heart of Brioude, the largest Romanesque church in Auvergne was built over the tomb of the martyr Saint-Julien who became the town's patron saint, attracting a multitude of pilgrims. The magnificent Brivadoise basilica has been ranked 3 stars in the Michelin Green Guide since 2017.

A Romanesque treasure not to be missed when you come to Brioude

It is the largest Romanesque building in Auvergne!

No austerity when entering the old building. But light and a dazzling of colors, inside and out. Those of building materials that alternate between pink and blond sandstone, volcanic scoria, limestone and marble. But also, those of the contemporary stained glass windows which illuminate the interior of the basilica with all their brilliance.

As you tread the cobbled alleys of the Saint-Julien basilica in Brioude, you can indeed perceive the unique play of light offered by the 37 contemporary stained glass windows created by Kim en Joong in collaboration with the Loire workshops in Chartres.

The richness and grandeur of the wall paintings, the calade carpet made from simple river pebbles, a parturient virgin, poignant crucifixions, a leper Christ... it is a profusion of old decorations which skilfully cohabit with contemporary works by the painter. Korean artist, and which make the Saint-Julien de Brioude basilica a unique building of its kind.
