In this Vallis Dei which means “Valley of God” and which gives its name to the town, serenity is in order. It is true that in the 1057th century (XNUMX), a Benedictine abbey settled in prayer and contemplation on the banks of the Senouire. All was not however a long calm river for these nuns, plundered by the Huguenots at the time of the wars of Religion and driven out during the Revolution.
Besides its winegrowers' houses very well restored, the town retains the traces of this secular monastic past. It offers visitors the discovery of a XNUMXth century cloister century one-of-a-kind masterpiece Auvergne Romanesque art, a church adorned with important mural paintings made from the XNUMXth to the XNUMXth century, a refectory, adorned with a monumental fresco of Byzantine influence of the XNUMXth century, as well as a moving garden with flowers and trees created between the ruins of the convent.
