And to think that we are in an ancient Celtic place of worship… The magic of the site is palpable. It must be said that it is loaded with 1000 years of history. The chapel is the only building to survive. Equipped with apsidioles in 1454, it was then enlarged by a bay in 1772. The slate roof and the stained glass windows that illuminate it date from the beginning of the XNUMXth century.e century (1904).

Le Moulin du Pinard, a surprising site between nature, traditions and local history

We don't have two hearts, one for men and the other for animals. Either you have a heart or you don't.

As soon as you enter, the tone is set… you will have to show respect. For the work of Jacques Darne who maintains the place with passion for more than 20 years and for the animals that live there. For them too, the mill is a haven of peace. A corner of paradise to which Jacques Darne devotes his time, between maintenance, restoration and redevelopment of the small local site which has nothing to envy to the larger ones.

A well-deserved meal break in a small haven of peace

We take the small path that goes down to the mill. It's steep, but easily accessible on foot. 5 minutes are enough to reach the little corner of paradise of Jacques Darne. Upon entry, picnic tables welcome us. Great ! We can even take the opportunity to have a bite to eat before discovering the magnificent garden that surrounds us: greenery, fed up, water lilies, sculptures, fountains and water games...

At a place called La Varenne, Jacques Darne revives the train of yesteryear

In the center of the garden, the reconstruction of the railway The Galoche, with its “locos” and steam engine from another era. A piece of Galoche like a open air museum which brings to light a dark part of the story: the derailment of June 26, 1944, which claimed the lives of 12 people, leaving 34 injured. The worst train accident that the Haute-Loire has known!

A wheat mill from the XNUMXth centurye century maintained with passion

And in the background, the famous mill. A XNUMXth century wheat mille century which, thanks to Jacques Darne and his restorations, has never been forgotten. It is also in perfect working order! On request, he can even start the fabulous machine. Quite a show!

And a real leap in time, in a place definitely unlike any other... After enjoying the calm, the magic, the lapping of the water and Mr. Darne's magical garden one last time, it's already time to go back to our household with a moral in mind: the most beautiful discoveries are not always far from home.
