The company is rather discreet. However, the Ciergerie du Sud-Est, established in Taulhac since 2002, manufactures 600 tonnes of paraffin products (liturgical candles, candles, tea lights, scented candles, etc.). A unique know-how that has been supplying the largest cathedrals and parishes in France since 1756. Brendon Leroy represents the 5e generation of the family to be at the head of the ponote company.
It is one of the oldest companies in Haute-Loire. And if this title alone justifies its labeling as Living heritage company (EPV), its merit does not depend on that alone... Southeast Ciererie is also rich in wax-making know-how passed down from generation to generation for centuries. The company's 35 employees produce exceptional candles and candles. Decorated by hand, they light up cathedrals, churches, parishes and other places of worship (mainly Catholic) all over France.
That's almost 270 that Southeast Ciererie thus maintains the flame. The flame of a unique know-how and techniques of which only they have the secret: the right combination of wick and wax, the right mixture of paraffin and beeswax... Not to mention the decorations, also made of wax and by hand. The result ? French and quality manufacturing, acclaimed in the 4 corners of France, because there are only 3 or 4 companies in this niche of activity in France.
From workshop to workshop, tapers and candles take shape… First, the wick must be stiffened, then immersed several times in a bath of wax until the candle reaches the desired diameter. Then, for the candles, it's the turn of the decorations: à la Southeast Ciererie, we imagine them, we draw them, we make a flexible mold to be able to reproduce them several times, then we hand painted. Like real miniature paintings. The decorations are then glued on the candle intended for them before shipment.
A mix of tradition and innovation
A traditional know-how, therefore, which nevertheless leaves room for innovation. La Ciergerie du Sud-Est has a wide range of items: top-of-the-range candles and scented candles, liturgical candles, devotional night lights, candle lights, illuminations, church ornaments, goldsmithery... reinvent to meet customer orders. Since 2020, the cigererie has, for example, diversified by offering "vine candles". Kinds of small braziers intended for reduce the risk of frost in the vines during late spring frosts.
