If in France, Auvergne is the land of wide open spaces with its oh so famous volcanoes such as the Puy de Dôme or the Puy de Sancy, it is no longer a secret, the Haute-Loire is the undisputed crossroads of the most prestigious of the Massif Central. Shaped by an atypical relief, with no less than 300 volcanoes with strange domes, where wild rivers and mountain lakes nestle, the Haute-Loire invites you to go hiking over several days or on loop circuits for a weekend.

The GR of Haute-Loire

On legendary hiking trails

The paths go far beyond a physical accomplishment. Some lead us to surpass ourselves, to go in search: of nature, of oneself, of meeting with the other...

Make the Santiago de Compostela – GR 65!

A couple look at the view of Le Puy-en-Velay from Notre-Dame-du-Puy cathedral in Haute-Loire, Auvergne

Much more than a pilgrimage route, the GR 65 is the way to put in your “to do list” of things to do at least once in your life.

In the footsteps of Stevenson –GR 70

Le GR 70 is a path that follows in the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson, famous writer of “Treasure Island”. A pioneer in his way of travelling, the author, who left from the village of Monastier-sur-Gazeille, leaves us a fine testimony. The ideal path for romantics, thirsty for freedom and literature!

For history buffs, this Country GR crosses and skirts abbeys, churches and castles, witnesses of a rich past where monks and knights rubbed shoulders in the past.

Interfere in the Gorges

Between the Loire and the Allier, it's sure, our heart swings and the choice will be difficult! Two great hiking routes “GR3 Sources and Gorges of the Loire"And"GR 470 “Springs and Gorges of the Allier” invite you to go up the stream of these two rivers which insinuate themselves into deep gorges with clear waters.

Flirt with volcanic ridges

300 volcanoes in Haute-Loire with atypical reliefs, there is enough to make a nice loop to discover them and measure yourself against differences in altitude. And like any Altiligerian, you will feel the irresistible urge to climb Mont Mézenc and its neighbor Le Gerbier.
