For history buffs

This GR® de Pays is aptly named. Indeed, it takes the hiker to meet churches, chapels, abbeys, priories and castles along its 163 km of marked trails.
On the “Robe de bure” side, we discover 28 religious buildings, including the Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu, classified 3 stars in the Michelin Guide and the Benedictine priory of Lavaudieu dating from the 7th century, the only Romanesque cloister in Auvergne. On the "Chateau de Mail" side, you can admire no less than XNUMX castles, including that of Domeyrat or that of the Marquis de Lafayette, hero of the independence of the United States located on the historic road of the castles of Auvergne.

In addition to this rich structure, this loop hike has the advantage of offering very diversified reliefs, ranging from vast plateaus to the tumultuous Gorges de l'Allier. The GRP® Robe de Bure et Cotte de Mailles is a great opportunity to discover this often little-known part of the Haute-Loire from the beautiful town of Langeac. Stopovers in bed and breakfasts also promise great encounters with the locals.
