The legend of the Devil's Bridge comes from the fatigue of the inhabitants to rebuild the bridge over the Ance destroyed with each flood. The devil offered to rebuild the bridge on the condition that the first person to cross it would be his. The lord sacrificed himself but had not expected that his dog, who was frolicking around him, was the first to cross the bridge to join the devil on the other side. The devil had to take the soul of the animal and furiously dropped a large stone from the parapet while disappearing. Each time the inhabitants of Chalencon put this stone back in its place, they found it the next day in the river. They eventually left it and if you look for it, under the bridge you can see the imprint of the angry devil's face there.
