The village of Moudeyres in Haute-Loire has the particularity of having been able to preserve and conserve its habitat, typical of the plateaus of Mezenc : its thatched cottages and houses with slate roofs. A rare know-how, which unfortunately is lost with the ages since there is only one thatched cottage left in Haute-Loire.
Made of thatch or slate, the roofs of these traditional volcanic stone houses give a certain charm to this Auvergne village. The restoration of these cottages and a beautiful quality of flowers in the village attract many visitors.
La Perrel Brothers Farm is here to testify. This thatched cottage, converted into an eco-museum, was inhabited by 10 generations of peasants, from 1750 to 1974. It retraces the lives of peasants and reveals the imagination and ingenuity needed to improve their daily lives.
