Conservatoire botanique national du Massif-Central

Come and discover the wild flora and natural spaces of the Massif Central in the gardens of the National Botanical Conservatory! Since 1998, this public establishment has been making an inventory and helping to preserve the territory's wild flora and vegetation.
Created on the initiative of the Department of Haute-Loire and approved by the French State since June 10, 1998, the National Botanical Conservatory of the Massif Central operates in 10 departments of Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes and New Aquitaine (i.e. 57 000 km2).
As part of his activities, he cultivates, across a 9 ha estate, more than 600 rare, threatened or emblematic plants of the Massif Central, but also numerous regional varieties of trees and fruit shrubs.
Along numerous dry stone walls, through the waving grasses of the hay meadows, in the refreshing shade of old oaks or around specially designed ponds and wetlands, two new botanical trails (45 min and 1h30) allow you to discover the flora and vegetation of the natural spaces which shape the landscape of the Massif Central. An interactive application and panels regularly placed along the route inform the visitor about the plant world, the missions of the Conservatory, useful plants, etc.
The gardens are open all year round, including weekends, with free and open access! Before your visit, download the interactive application to your mobile (https://jardins.cbnmc.fr) which will allow you to choose and follow your route or obtain the visit plan available at the Conservatory reception.
Guided tours and activities: Thematic or general, fun or serious, the Conservatory offers numerous guided tours of the gardens, particularly during the summer season. What flora characterizes volcanic substrates? Is it true that it is possible to find coastal plants in the heart of Auvergne? What are old growth forests? What is the job of a botanist like? How does a plant propagate? How to get started with botany? To answer this, discover our entertainment program on www.cbnmc.fr and on our Facebook page!
Every first weekend of June, the Conservatory opens its gardens for the Plant Festival organized in partnership with Jardins fruités and the Department of Haute-Loire. Don't hesitate to take advantage of the numerous activities organized for this occasion in the gardens of the Conservatory and in the Parc du Château de Lafayette located alongside it!
Reception hours: 9 a.m. to 17 p.m., Monday to Friday. Gardens open all year round including weekends. Free and open access.
