Forteresse de Polignac

Located in one of the "Most beautiful villages in France", the Fortress of Polignac stands on a basalt base which seems to serve as a pedestal. This site, which is already a feast for the eyes from the outside, offers a unique panorama from its platform.
The impregnable Fortress of Polignac offers a striking spectacle, it is one of the most majestic places in France.
Unique defensive system, farmyard, main courtyard, 32 meter high keep are the main stages of a circuit made up of 14 points of interest which takes the visitor to discover this magnificent 3 hectare site.
The fortress, which was visited by François 1st in 1533, was abandoned in the 17th century in favor of the Château de Lavoûte Polignac, the new residence of a family many of whose members left their mark on the history of France. Among them, the Duchess de Polignac, favorite of Queen Marie-Antoinette, but also Cardinal de Polignac, French ambassador to Poland and Rome, and Prince Jules de Polignac, minister of Charles X.
