Chilhac on the banks of the Allier, to crunch in painting just like its astonishing basalt organs.
Chilhac is an old town once surrounded by ramparts (from the XNUMXth century) and which was built on the last lava flow of the Devès chain in Auvergne.
Overlooking the Allier river, this village has however kept certain vestiges of its history such as its Romanesque church, its towers and entrance porches of the old castle.
More surprisingly, it benefits from a Mediterranean microclimate which once allowed it to cultivate vines.
Chilhac is also famous for its many basalt columns, called "Organs", sculpted by its ancient and intense volcanic activity whose cooling lava flows form these imposing columns characteristic of the environment of this village of Haute-Loire.
