La Fontaine Saint Julien

La Fontaine preserves the memory of the martyrdom of Saint Julien, beheaded in 304.
According to legend, Roman soldiers washed the head of Saint Julian in the waters of this spring and many miracles occurred. Having very early become a famous place of pilgrimage, the fountain was topped, in the XNUMXth century, with an elegant vaulted aedicula, in Romanesque style, with two remarkable capitals.
No vestige remains of the oratory which had been erected in this place. Guarding the fountain and the oratory was ensured by the priests of the Saint-Ferréol church, replaced in the 17th century by the monks of the nearby Minimes convent.
The Revolution saw the destruction of the buildings, except for the fountain which remained a place of pilgrimage, particularly during the novena of Saint Julien.

Currently a mass is still celebrated near the fountain, the feast day of the Saint, August 28 during the patronal feast of the city.
