Located at the confluence of the Desges and the Allier, Chanteuges is one of these remarkable villages of Haut-Allier. Built on a basalt spur, the XNUMXth century Benedictine abbey, its priory, its church and its cloister overlook the village and its cobbled streets.

The first written record dates back to 936, date on which the religious establishment is founded by the provost of the chapter. Priory of Chanteuges retains the former abbey church dedicated to Saint-Marcellin, first bishop of Embrun, attached to the abbey of La Chaise-Dieu in 1137. The priory is located on a basalt rock overlooking the Allier.
