PR 642 – Le Sauvage

Between bogs and granite balls. Departing from the wild, emblematic site of the Margeride and the road to Santiago de Compostela, this beautiful day hike takes you in the footsteps of pilgrims and on the Margeridian peaks.

Description

The ears of nature will also discover the very particular flora of the peat bogs. An enchanting landscape where a change of scenery is guaranteed.
D-Back to the hostel, go right to walk along the pond and continue on the track to the right (we follow the GR 65). At the next fork, continue straight. In view of the road (cross-country ski center), follow it to the left for 500 m.
1-Pass the Saint-Roch chapel and climb the track to the right (you leave the GR 65). At the intersection of the 2 tracks, climb sharply to the right. Arrival in front of the barrier, at the edge of the woods, walk along the barbed wire (without passing the barrier) to the left (view of the margeride). You reach a perpendicular track (in front of a spruce forest.
2-Continue left and walk along the wood, then pass between woods and fields (barriers to cross). Join a larger track and follow it to the right. During an opening, the track continues to the right. Leave it and continue straight.
3-At the next crossing, go right into the woods and continue straight at the next crossing. Shortly after, the track turns left. Leave it for a straight grassy path. At the bottom of the descent, join a wide track and follow it to the right (peat bogs) to Chanaleilles.
4-In the village, pass under the church and in front of the town hall, go down to the right. At the road, near the Bar-restaurant, go left then at the exit of the village continue right. Before the bridge, follow the direction of Contaldés on the left. At the first house in the village follow the track to the right (we find the GR 1). In the village, go up to the left then continue to the right. We cross a road.
5-Continue on the track opposite, at the fork, turn left and enter the woods. At the 2nd barrier, continue to the left then up the hill to the right. At the edge of the woods in view of the hostel, pass the barrier to go right and reach the hostel.
The Sauvage farm offers lodging and food for hikers.
