Espace d'art contemporain les Roches
Discover the artists Arlette and Simon through a visit to their gallery or by participating in a ceramics course in their workshop.
The ceramic artists, Arlette and Marc Simon, exhibit in galleries in France and abroad as well as during biennials on contemporary ceramics such as that of Vallauris. Their works are present in numerous public and private collections (Cité de la Céramique in Sèvres, Élysée, Manises Museum in Spain, Soissons Museum, etc.). Arlette Simon received the honorary prize at the Manises International Biennale. After a stay in California, they were invited in 2009 for a residency in Shigaraki in Japan then in 2017 in Zhen ru Tang in China.
Arlette Simon is particularly interested in “the creation of volumes where voids and full spaces participate in the same tense balance” sometimes using neon to reveal the play of light and surfaces. Marc Simon creates very expressionist sculptural works, sometimes anthropomorphic, with telluric forms specific to fantastical universes.

We opened the Espace d'Art Contemporain Les Roches in 2002 with one objective: to create highly topical events in rural areas. This place is located in a village of Haute-Loire, Chambon-sur-Lignon. It is a unique cultural space for this department where the topicality of the forms and questions seized by French and international contemporary creation is presented there.
