The programme
1 DAY:
Welcome and installation in Puy-en-Velay
2 DAY:
Le Puy-en-Velay-Vorey-sur-Arzon: 2 viewpoints along this first stage, over Polignac and its castle and over the Loire valley. After passing through the town of Polignac, you will walk along the Loire before reaching Lavoûte sur Loire. Very nice route then between small hamlets and isolated houses to Vorey-sur-Arzon: 27 km.
3 DAY:
Vorey-sur-Arzon-Allègre: superb route through the woods and plateaus, which leads to Mont-Bar, the most famous and most striking of the Velay volcanoes (peat bog within its crater) before reaching Allègre, village of character at 1000m altitude: 26 km.
4 DAY:
Allègre-Beauregard: Between agricultural land, small hamlets and undergrowth, this fairly short stage will allow you to stroll around a bit or stop at Fix St Geneys for a coffee break in the village: 12.5 km.
5 DAY:
Siaugues St Romain-Rougeac: Remarkable views of the Velay and the Limagne marshes, passing by the summit of the Durande (1299m). Between point 40 and point 41 on the topo, take a PR to the right which goes towards Rougeac (map attached to the file): 23.5 km.
6 DAY:
Rougeac-le Bouchet St Nicolas: join the GR at Lac de l'Oeuf, then pass through Montbonnet on the way to St Jacques de Compostelle; the path will then follow the great crest of the Massif du Devès (1421m) with a recommended stop at an orientation table at Mont-Recours: 17.5km.
7 DAY:
Le Bouchet-St-Nicolas-Goudet: encounters with the GR70 and GR700, the Stevenson path and La Régordane and through the agricultural land of the lentil country, you will walk to the tourist village of Goudet and its pretty bridge over the Loire: 16 km.
DAY 8
Goudet-Solignac: stage parallel to the Loire gorges, crossing pretty villages (like Fleurac, Les Ceyssous, Les Rozières, etc.) overlooking the Loire: 17km. Transfer at the end of the afternoon and overnight to Puy-en-Velay.
9 DAY:
Solignac-Le Puy-en-Velay: still following the Loire, you reach Brives Charensac before joining Le Puy-en-Velay by the banks of the Borne: 24 km.
10 DAY:
End of stay after breakfast.
