Classe Volcanisme

Program

Discover the different sources of energy (fossil, renewable and non-renewable) used by man and their consequences on the environment.
– 1 hike with an instructor from the center who will present the Mézenc Massif, the village, its history, geography, life in the middle of the mountains…
– 1 day discovering 3 different types of volcanoes:
* 9:15 a.m., departure by bus from the center to discover the first volcano, the Cherchemuse. If the weather permits, the group joins the second volcano (Issarlès maar crater) on foot (about 1 hour) following pretty paths in the undergrowth.
* Around 12:30 p.m., picnic by the lake of Issarlès (or in a room if the weather is bad). Possibility to go around the lake on foot (about 5 km) to give explanations on this type of volcanism.
The group then goes by bus to the third volcano which is at the source of the Loire. This is an opportunity to talk about the longest river in France, the watershed line, to collect some rocks….
Return to the center around 18 p.m.

– 1 workshop on explanations and experiments in the classroom, (whole class) to develop the explanations from the day before. The children carry out experiments, make diagrams, watch video projections, etc.

– 1 workshop for manufacturing volcano models. The children are gathered in groups of 3-4, and choose from around ten models the volcano they want to make. Helped by the instructor, they will draw, cut, glue and plaster in order to create the model that is as faithful as possible to the volcanoes studied outdoors. The models will then be brought back to the school to be decorated and can be used as support for an exhibition.

– 1 introduction to orientation: The 1st part is done in the room (around 1 hour) to familiarize yourself with the material: learning to read a map, use a compass, recognize the markers… The 2nd part is outdoors: In teams of 2-3, the children set off in search of markers around the center (difficulties vary depending on age).

– 1 visit to the listed village of Bigorre. During this half-day the whole class goes to visit the very pretty thatched village of Bigorre. This small village of character has retained all the authenticity of the villages of yesteryear and you can discover its secrets during a visit to its eco-museum.

– 1 big Volcanoes game: the class is divided into groups of 3-4 students to participate in the big orienteering game. It involves finding (in the village or around the center) riddles on the theme covered throughout the week. This activity allows you to evaluate the knowledge acquired during the stay.

– 3 evenings:
– Projection: For 30 minutes, slideshow presenting the 4 seasons on the Mézenc massif. The slideshow is accompanied by background music and shows the fauna, flora, traditional festivals, harsh climates, etc.
– Tales and legends: a professional offers, for approximately 1 hour, tales on the theme of volcanoes.
– Video projection on the theme of volcanoes (several titles to choose from).
All the activities listed on the schedule are supervised by people holding a State Sports Certificate and/or a BTS in Nature Management and Protection.

– The activities are adapted to the age and level of the children.
– Activities may be moved on the schedule depending on weather conditions and instructor availability.
– As a general rule, activities take place from 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 14:15 p.m. to 17:00 p.m. But the schedules will be adapted according to the expectations of the teachers (weather, fatigue of the group, etc.).
– On the day of departure, the group is asked to tidy up the rooms and vacate them before the start of the activities (around 9 a.m.).
