This XNUMXth century fortified house, remodeled and restored several times throughout its history, is the birthplace of the famous General Marquis de La Fayette. The latter, “honorary citizen of the United States” spent the first years there and was one of the heroes of American independence.

This manor castle, protected as a Historic Monument and labeled “Houses of the Illustrious”, traces the major stages in the life of the Marquis and his wife Adrienne de Noailles. Visiting it is a real dive into the heart of the XNUMXth century, through the various rooms of the castle, in the footsteps of these extraordinary historical figures whose protagonist is internationally known.

A must see at Chavaniac-Lafayette, the magnificent 3-hectare park that surrounds the castle in which the rose garden and arboretum follow one another. A "garden", which is the only one in Haute-Loire open to the public to be labeled “remarkable garden”.

The castle is open to visitors from april to november. From 01/04 to 30/06 and from 01/09 to 07/11: Open every day except Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 14 p.m. to 18 p.m. From 01/07 to 31/08: Open every day, from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m., non-stop.
