Eglise Saint-Laurent

It is the only Gothic church in Le Puy en Velay. Its choir houses the recumbent statue of Constable Bertrand Du Guesclin.
The church was built in 1221 then enlarged in the 14th century. It has a very beautiful flamboyant style portal. Once inside, we are surprised by its beautifully large nave. Its magnificent stained glass windows from the 19th and 20th centuries have been skillfully restored. Very beautiful woodwork (pulpits, stalls, etc.) and a beautiful organ inaugurated in December 1882
In the 18th century, due to lack of maintenance, the church threatened to collapse. Buttresses were built then in the 20th century cables were stretched between the pillars. Unfortunately, the church closed in 1971. It was opened to the public again at Christmas 1988.
