It is not for nothing that Allègre has received the Small Cities of Character label. A former feudal city from the XNUMXth century, it is built around the remains of a castle (the gallows) opposite an imposing volcano “Mont Bar”, known for its crater and peat bog. The oldest houses in the town are staged on the slopes of Mont Baury.

From Antiquity to the Middle Ages, the town of Allègre can be visited through its charreyrons : the narrow streets once used by water carriers. Without forgetting its curious “gallows” perched at the top of Mont Baury, which is none other than the remains of an ancient feudal castle ravaged by fire at the end of the XNUMXth century.
