Polignac, is a noble fief of Haute-Loire. Located very close to Puy-en-Velay in Haute-Loire, the village is renowned for its imposing fortress installed on a rocky outcrop. Visible for miles around, the fortress was intended to protect the village and the northern entrance to Le Puy-en-Velay.
Arranged in a circle around this "rocky throne", the houses in the town center are located a hundred meters below. The Polignac fortress is the cradle of one of the most illustrious families in the history of France and stands out for its intact tower and its remains (chapel, main courtyard, walkway, etc.).
The site, which is already a feast for the eyes from the outside, offers from its platform a 360-degree panorama, unique over the region. The impregnable fortress has a unique defensive system: a barnyard, a main courtyard, and above all, a 32 m high dungeon.
