The site was created by the accumulation of lava spread at different times from multiple exit points. The Loire then slipped between the volcanic rocks.
This valley gives a cachet to one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Parking at the exit of the village and marker at the start of the trail (Volcan en Liberté logo). Hike: 2 hours (return), 6km, 112m elevation gain. Two interpretive furniture are set up on viewpoints.
