In the footsteps of Saint-Régis, the tireless walker

Nicknamed "the Apostle of Velay and Vivarais", Jean-François Saint-Régis was canonized in 1737. If he is the patron saint of handmade lacemakers, he could also have been that of hikers. Indeed, in order to approach the peasants freed from the work of the fields, he rushed in all weathers in crazy races of up to 60 km!

The way of Saint-Régis passes in fact in the places where the Jesuit developed his action in the service of the men. Between La Louvesc in Ardèche, and Puy-en-Velay, the 199 km loop successively crosses 5 emblematic regions of this volcanic territory: the upper Vivarais, the Mézenc plateau, the Puy basin, the Meygal to finish on the plateau granite around Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid. The altitudes and elevations of the hike oscillate between 613 m and 1 m and the landscapes which change over the kilometers never allow monotony to settle.

It is advisable to set off on this famous GR® of the Haute-Loire between May and October to take full advantage of the beautiful palette of colors offered by nature.
